“Revolver” .410 shotguns

There has been a recent trend of offshore manufactured “Revolver” style .410 shotguns.  Many of these shotguns have tight chambers.  They “may” be compatible with European Standards for .410 ammunition but are significantly tighter than SAAMI Spec used in North America.  Further, many of these also have an issue with the star extractor not being properly cut or fitted to the cylinder.  These issues result in very poor loading, extraction and operation of the revolving action and many require reworking to make them useful.

  • Ream/hone chambers, blued models $15/chamber.  (minimum $75 as most are 5 chamber  cylinders)
  • Ream/hone chambers, nickel models $20/chamber.  (minimum $100 as most are 5 chamber  cylinders)
  • Rework star extractor to function correctly, Standard hourly rate.  (minimum $40)

Fitting of “Drop In” barrel:  Fitting standard, customer supplied, drop in barrel to customers frame $145.  (cost of required length barrel link and pin are extra)

Revolver Rebarrel/Classification Change

Revolver Rebarreling:  Installation of correct, customer supplied barrel on common revolvers $125.  Pinned barrels, additional $25.  If your revolver requires a custom made wrench or inserts that are not commonly available there will be an additional charge of $50.

Barrels:  We have a small and ever changing supply of “Restricted” length revolver barrels for reclassifying revolvers.  Email for availability and cost.

Reclassification:  We are certified Verifiers.  As such we can prepare the paperwork you require to have a handgun reclassified after barrel length changes.  If we change the barrel for you the paperwork is included in the prices.  We will verify your firearms even if we have not done the work but standard gunsmithing rates apply for the inspection and measurement of the firearm.  Please note: When a firearm has been rebarreled for reclassification the prohibited barrel can not be returned to you!

Cylinder gap adjustment, if needed:  See below.

Revolver Throating

Revolver Forcing Cone:   5, 11 and 18 Degree Forcing cone throating is available for revolvers in 9mm/38/357, 40/41, 44 and 45 bore diameters.  Basic throating is $75.  Additional $25 if facing is required as well at the same time.

Forcing Cone Facing:  Installed a new barrel?  Need the forcing cone faced or trued?  Forcing cone facing is $60.

Cylinder Chamber Throating:  Do you have a tight chamber in your cylinder, are they all a bit tight for the cast bullet loads you use?  Available for 38/357, 44 and 45.  Cylinder chamber throating is $15/chamber.

Cylinder Gap Adjustment:  Excessive gap:  If your cylinder gap is excessive between the cylinder face and forcing cone of the barrel your barrel will need to be removed, machined, re-installed and then correctly cut to the appropriate gap.  The cost is dependent on many factors (pinned barrel, profile, revolver type, etc).  Minimum charge for this service is $175

Insufficient gap:  If your barrel does not have enough gap between the cylinder and the forcing cone then it is simply a matter of facing the forcing cone are to remove enough material for the correct gap, charge $60.  If you have had a new barrel installed that has not been fitted (cylinder will not close, sights not TDC, etc) then full fitting is required, $125.

Other Machining

Firearms Deactivation

We are certified to Deactivate firearms of all types.  We provide this service to Estates and Individuals.  Should you have a firearm you require deactivation of please contact us at info@practicalperformance.ca and we will be happy to give you a custom quote based on your needs.  We do not deactivate firearms by choice.  We do it to provide a service to those who wish to retain a family heirloom or other prized piece they cannot obtain licensing for in it’s “live” state.  If you would prefer to find a new home for a firearm that can be sold, rather than have it deactivated, contact us.  We have a list of things people are looking for and may be able to relocate your item for you.

Standard deactivation of most firearms is $250.  Some firearms require considerably more work to bring to deactivation standard.  Contact us to confirm if your desired job falls into this category or not (usually applies to drillings, multi barrel firearms and some “machine guns” or larger items).  This price also includes the preparation of the declaration you need to send in to the Government to have your firearm de-registered.
